Edge of Elsewhere Immersive Experience to Open in Somerville
A first-of-its-kind interactive art and entertainment concept from Midnight Mansion to open this fall at Somernova
SOMERVILLE, Mass. (Sept. 2026) Somernova is thrilled to announce that Edge of Elsewhere, a 12,000-square-foot immersive world of art, puzzles, and secrets created by Midnight Mansion, will open on the Somernova innovation campus in Somerville this fall.
Part interactive art experience, part game and part puzzle-filled adventure, Edge of Elsewhere guests collaborate to unravel storylines and explore worlds that each play by their own rules. Guests explore the venue with a personalized passcard which they use to activate installations, unlock content, and solve mysteries and puzzles in a video game-inspired progression.
Like an in-person choose-your-own-adventure, there is no single path through Edge of Elsewhere. Hidden interactions, layered details, and branching content are designed to reward curiosity, and returning guests may discover entirely new areas.
“Edge of Elsewhere is exactly what we want at Somernova - creative, ambitious, and difficult to fit into a traditional category,” said Kristin Phalen. “We’ve built this campus around people who are experimenting with new ideas and creating things that haven’t existed before. Midnight Mansion is bringing together artists, engineers, designers and technologists to create an entirely new and incredibly fun experience, and we’re excited that Somernova will be its home.”
Edge of Elsewhere is the flagship venue from Midnight Mansion, a Boston-area creative studio. Its team of artists, designers and engineers combines physical fabrication, creative technology, mechanical systems, lighting, sound and storytelling to create immersive experiences. The project is led by Victor Hung, a Thea Award-winning creator, alongside fellow MIT co-founders Hunter Guarino and Dillon Zhang. The team’s past work includes Boxaroo, a nationally ranked escape room, and Level99's first location in Natick.
“We wanted to create a place that gives people permission to be curious, to wander, experiment, play and discover things for themselves,” said Victor. “Edge of Elsewhere has been years in the making, and Somernova gives us the opportunity to bring all of those ideas together into a real physical world people can step inside and experience.”
With 50+ collaborating local artists, designers, fabricators, programmers, musicians, and storytellers, the experience has also become a showcase for Somerville-area creative talent. Their original work for the venue spans murals and sculpture, large-scale installations and interactive elements. An artist-in-residence (to be announced shortly) will create mural elements on-site, allowing visitors to watch the artwork evolve as part of the experience.
The arrival of Edge of Elsewhere adds a new arts and entertainment destination to Somernova’s 7.4-acre innovation campus. Somernova brings together world-class climate and energy companies, entrepreneurs, artists, community organizations, food and beverage businesses and experiential concepts, creating a campus where new ideas and unexpected collaborations can take shape.
Edge of Elsewhere will open at Somernova in Fall 2026. Additional details on opening dates, tickets and the experience will be announced in the coming weeks.
